#230 - Funk in the Trunk

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Oh man. Bad shit is going down!

I started reading Iceberg Slim’s Pimp tonight and hot damn, what a fine book. Been meaning to read his stuff since first hearing of him (via Ice T) when I was a teen. I was finally able to pick up a couple of his books at Powell’s a couple weeks back and, fucking rad.

Anyone else reading anything good these days?

I just read The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect, that’s a good sci fi about a cyber reality and the computer that generates it: http://www.kuro5hin.org/prime-intellect/mopiidx.html

the Monster trilogy is really keen too, about zombies and lichlords and so on in a post-apocalyptic Earth. There’s a link to the first one, Monster Island: http://www.brokentype.com/monster/
check out the author’s other free online books too, good stuff.

And I’m sure everyone that reads this comic has read John Dies at the End, because we’re all the cool people, right? Just in case you haven’t read that most excellent cynical, in-your-face and transdimensional of crazy fucking online books, here: http://www.johndiesattheend.com/
There’s even a sequel that is even more insane, check-check it out.

Anything by Tim Dorsey. The guy is fucking nuts. The main character in most of his books is Serge, a psychopath who is in and out of state hospitals, having wacky adventures when he’s out. First book:
