#202 - Trapped By Conversation

Monday, January 15th, 2007

First off, thanks to Bren R. who has agreed to help me catch up with colouring past Hate Song strips that I’ve missed. I’ve just uploaded his first right here. Damn fine job, if I can say so.

That said, I am going black and white for a little while. The freelance work seems to keep coming in and is eating up a lot of my freetime. Hopefully it’ll be enough so that I can one day quit my day job. However as it is, it’s not. So the free time that I do have has to be divided between freelance and Hate Song and since freelance often stuffs dollar bills down my panties and Hate Song doesn’t, well…Hate Song has to sometime step aside.

I figure that by dropping the colour (for now), I can cut at least an hour or two out of producing the strip and create a situation where it is much more likely that will be able to complete the strip on time and (hopefully) minimize missed days.

Reading Hate Song in B&W is way cooler than sitting around waiting for it in color.

  2. Purple Says:

No kidding on Bren R. being good, I can barely tell the difference between it and the real thing.

And hey, Hate Song generally comes across as funny in both colour and B&W, as long as you don’t start writing in “leet speek” and making jokes about video games to cut down on production time, I doubt anyone is going to raise a stink.

Hehehehe! I loved this strip. Possibly one of the funniest I have seen. Perhaps because of my deep resentment for Myspace and thus I start laughing whenever it is mentioned… but that was a great punchline. Kudos.

  4. Josh Millard Says:

Paul is wise. Color is keen but strips are the shit. Do ‘em in crayon on the back of napkins if you have to, Fred.

  5. Bren R. Says:

Thanks for the kudos, Fred & Purple.

  6. Lady Chaos Says:

    Awww…. Lewis’s myspace address doesn’t work… :(
I was going to leave him a comment too. *cries*

  7. Lucost Says:

The B&W strips are way cooler than the coloured ones.
You should only colourize the strip if the story involves one of the characters getting stoned (be it drugs, booze or kitty piss…)

  8. Kat Says:

B&W rocks, and if it saves you time it’s just an added bonus.

Oh man. This is my new favorite page.

  9. Jonboy Says:

Definately one of the best strips. Classic

  10. Chadhulhu Says:

I like the b&w, basic simple, no need for PS’ing the hell out of it. And man, is myspace lame.

  11. James Says:

    Satin humper?

    Satan* ?

    Maybe I’m just an idiot.

  12. Josh Millard Says:

Satin is a bit more emasculating. “Satan humper” would really only scan if anybody took Lewis’ goth routine seriously.

Goth4ever! haha great stuff. It would explain so much if myspace had implanted a way of knowing messages had been posted on your page….
